Terrifier 3’ Jump Scares $2M+ Previews & 94% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score, ‘Joker

October 11, 2024 0

Cineverse’s unrated slasher threequel Terrifier 3 grossed out $2.6M in previews on Thursday which began at 8PM. There’s speculation that this microbudget movie, which cost Cineverse under $5M in its entirety for acquisition and P&A, will topple Warner Bros’ Joker: Folie à Deux from the top spot of the box office in its second weekend with an $11M+ take. We will see. It all depends if Cineverse’s thrifty marketing campaign finds a greater audience beyond the core it’s promoting to; their streaming subs and Blooding Disgusting followers. The Damien Leone written and directed horror movie is 94% with Rotten Tomatoes audiences, and 78% with critics. Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak didn’t capture audience exits on the pic.

The early box office numbers putting Terrifier 3 at No. 1 after early previews are far beyond our expectations and we are thrilled to see how strongly the Terrifier fanbase has come out in support of the franchise’s new chapter,” said Cineverse Chairman/CEO Chris McGurk in a statement this AM. “This success is proof that a quality indie film can hold its own theatrically despite being unrated and going up against big studio features and buzzy festival darlings, and is a testament to Phil and Damien’s vision and connection to those most passionate about the horror genre.”

Rafael Nadal to retire from tennis at end of season

October 10, 2024 0

Nadal, 38, has enjoyed a career that has seen him win 22 Grand Slams, including 14 French Open titles. But he has been hampered by injuries in recent years, and he announced Thursday that this will be his final year playing the sport.

He will play for Spain against the Netherlands in the Davis Cup in Malaga from Nov. 19-21. That will be his final act on the tennis court, in a sport where he stood alongside Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray as four modern greats in the men's game.

I'm here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis," Nadal said in a video statement posted to social media. "The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these two especially. I don't think I have been able to play without limitations. It is obviously a difficult decision, one that takes me some time to make.

But in this life, everything has a beginning and an end. And I think it's an appropriate time to put an end to a career that has been long and much more successful than I could have ever imagined.

"I am very excited that my last tournament will be the final of the Davis Cup and representing my country. I think I've come full circle since one of my first great joys as a professional tennis player was the Davis Cup final in Sevilla in 2004. I feel super, super lucky for all the things I've been able to experience. I want to thank the entire tennis industry."

Nadal went pro in 2001 and won the 2005 French Open in his first attempt. From there he established remarkable dominance on clay, winning 14 tournaments in 18 years at Roland Garros (2005-08, 20-14, 2017-20, 2022).

He also triumphed at the Australian Open (2009, '22), Wimbledon (2008, '10) and the US Open (2010, '13, '17, '19).

His victory over Roger Federer on Centre Court at the All England Club in 2008 is widely regarded to be one of the finest matches the men's sport has ever seen, with Nadal triumphing 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-7 (8), 9-7. He also won Olympic gold in 2008 in men's singles and 2016 in men's doubles and spent 209 weeks as the world No. 1.

Federer paid tribute to Nadal in a post on Instagram: "What a career, Rafa," he wrote."I always hoped this day would never come. Thank you for the unforgettable memories and all your incredible achievements in the game we love.

"It's been an absolute honour!"

Nadal is already immortalised at Roland Garros with a statue outside Court Philippe-Chatrier, and it will be his dominance on clay for which he will remain synonymous in retirement.

In recent years, Nadal has struggled with injury. He has Mueller-Weiss syndrome in his foot -- a condition that saw him use numbing injections to get through the 2022 French Open -- and has struggled with abdominal injuries in the past couple of years.

He missed this year's Australian Open but managed to play in the French Open, where he lost in the first round to Alexander Zverev. But his focus this year was to play at Roland Garros both in the French Open and Paris Olympics. He managed to get through to the Olympics, where he teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz in men's doubles to reach the quarterfinals.

Nadal's 23-year career contains several remarkable feats. His record at Roland Garros reads 112 victories and just four defeats. In a display of his incredible longevity, there were 13 years between his two Australian Open triumphs. He made 30 Grand Slam finals appearances, winning 22, and lifted 92 ATP Tour-level singles titles.

He also won four Davis Cup titles.

"I feel super lucky for all the things I've been able to experience," Nadal said. "I want to thank the entire tennis industry, all the people involved in this sport, my longtime colleagues, especially my great rivals. I've spent many, many hours with them, and I've lived many moments that I'll remember for the rest of my life. Talking about my team is a little bit more difficult for me, because in the end, my team has been a very important part of my life. They're not just co-workers. They are friends.

"And finally, you the fans -- I can't thank you enough for what you've made me feel. You give me the energy I've needed every moment, really.

"Everything I have experienced has been a dream come true. I leave with the absolute peace of mind of having given my best, of having made an effort in every way I can only end by saying, a thousand thanks to you all. See you soon."

Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell makes history as team falters in season opener

October 09, 2024 0

As soon as the puck dropped for the NHL game between the Seattle Kraken and the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, history was made.

Jessica Campbell looks onJessica Campbell became the first woman to work behind the bench as an assistant coach for an NHL team in league history. Unfortunately, it was to the tune of a 3-2 loss to the Blues.

Regardless, Campbell broke down barriers.

"For me, it's just a normal day in terms of my work, in terms of my routine, in terms of all of those pieces," she said, via the team’s website. "I never want to diminish the things that I'm doing because I'm so focused on the task at hand, but I also know that being focused on the task at hand has allowed me to get to this moment and is going to continue. So, I have to stay focused on what matters most, which is the guys and the team and the success that we want to have.

"But I think the moment leading up to the game and stepping on the bench.… I'm really going to try to honor what it is, because I know, and I definitely understand that the magnitude and the importance of this moment is really important for our game."

Even with the loss, Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn recognized the historic moment that had taken place at Climate Pledge Arena.

"It’s something that we’ve all been proud to be a part of," Dunn added. "It certainly makes a statement around the world for all women, so it’s a special moment for her tonight. It sucks we couldn’t get the win for her."

Big Little Lies' back with original author for Season 3, Reese Witherspoon says

October 09, 2024 0

Reese Witherspoon is sharing a little more about "Big Little Lies" Season 3

Reese Witherspoon attends Hello Sunshine's second annual Shine Away experiential event on Oct. 5, 2024 in Los Angeles. The actress and fellow star Nicole Kidman have been "waiting" for new material from Liane Moriarty, the New York Times bestselling author of "Big Little Lies," Reese told E! News.

"We're in waiting for Liane Moriarty. She's going to be turning in something very soon," Witherspoon, 48, said on the red carpet of her media company Hello Sunshine's second annual Shine Away conference on Saturday. "We're back to the original author, and we're going to go back to the original characters."

She added: "It's exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now. So that might add another element. I don't know yet, I haven't read it yet."

Both stars have previously confirmed a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series is in the works.

In November, Kidman, 57, mentioned a third season was happening during a Q&A and later told Variety she and Witherspoon are "texting every day" about it. "There's a timeline and we're doing it," she added. Kidman and Witherspoon are both producers on the show.

During a Vanity Fair conversation in June, Kidman confirmed Season 3 is moving "fast and furious" but chided her own eagerness to talk about the new season.

"We need to shut up," Kidman continued. "There's this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you've done it. If you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you've done it."

The first season, which debuted in 2017, centered on a mysterious murder and the group of women involved in the investigation. Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz and Laura Dern starred. Though it was initially billed as a one-season story and even won the Emmy for best limited series, the show returned in 2019 for a second season depicting the aftermath of the murder. For Season 2, Meryl Streep was added to the cast.
