Big Little Lies' back with original author for Season 3, Reese Witherspoon says

Reese Witherspoon is sharing a little more about "Big Little Lies" Season 3

Reese Witherspoon attends Hello Sunshine's second annual Shine Away experiential event on Oct. 5, 2024 in Los Angeles. The actress and fellow star Nicole Kidman have been "waiting" for new material from Liane Moriarty, the New York Times bestselling author of "Big Little Lies," Reese told E! News.

"We're in waiting for Liane Moriarty. She's going to be turning in something very soon," Witherspoon, 48, said on the red carpet of her media company Hello Sunshine's second annual Shine Away conference on Saturday. "We're back to the original author, and we're going to go back to the original characters."

She added: "It's exciting, too, because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now. So that might add another element. I don't know yet, I haven't read it yet."

Both stars have previously confirmed a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series is in the works.

In November, Kidman, 57, mentioned a third season was happening during a Q&A and later told Variety she and Witherspoon are "texting every day" about it. "There's a timeline and we're doing it," she added. Kidman and Witherspoon are both producers on the show.

During a Vanity Fair conversation in June, Kidman confirmed Season 3 is moving "fast and furious" but chided her own eagerness to talk about the new season.

"We need to shut up," Kidman continued. "There's this whole thing that you should never talk about something until you've done it. If you talk about doing it, it's the dopamine hit of doing it. You feel like you've done it."

The first season, which debuted in 2017, centered on a mysterious murder and the group of women involved in the investigation. Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene WoodleyZoë Kravitz and Laura Dern starred. Though it was initially billed as a one-season story and even won the Emmy for best limited series, the show returned in 2019 for a second season depicting the aftermath of the murder. For Season 2, Meryl Streep was added to the cast.
