Donald Trump trial live updates: Stormy Daniels returns to the stand in the hush money case

May 09, 2024 0

Stormy Daniels will return to the witness stand in Donald Trump’s hush money trial to continue her extraordinary testimony.

The porn star went into lurid and salacious detail on Tuesday about the night with the former president in a hotel room in 2006 where they allegedly had sex.

Her allegations and claims against Trump, which he has furiously denied, led to the defense asking for multiple objections and demanding a mistrial.

The $130,000 payment she received to keep quiet about the alleged affair before the 2016 election is at the center of the case.

Follow all of Thursday’s action from DailyMail.com’s reporters in the court.

The atmosphere inside courtroom 1530 was already electric. A brooding Donald Trump glared out at the ranks of press as if to gauge the size of his audience before prosecutors and defense lawyers haggled over how much of the mechanics of his alleged affair could be brought up before the jury.

Only no-one had reckoned with the way porn star Stormy Daniels would become a runaway witness as she described their 2006 hotel encounter.

‘I had my clothes and my shoes off. I believe my bra however was still on. We were in the missionary position,’ Daniels said.

CDC warns of new Covid ‘FLiRT’ variants becoming dominant across the US

May 09, 2024 0

The latest Covid variants nicknamed ‘FLiRT’ are sweeping the nation after mutating the virus in a way that it evades the human immune systems.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) detected KP.1.1 and KP.2 variants in wastewater sampling, finding the latter made up about a quarter of new Covid cases last month.

But an infectious disease doctor has now told DailyMail.com that these new mutations, which alter the ‘spike proteins’ of the coronavirus, also appear to make the pandemic illness less capable of penetrating and infecting human cells.

This mixed blessing has medical professionals warning of an impending Covid wave this summer, which should make these sneakier — but less infectious — strains of the virus more common.

An infectious disease doctor has told DailyMail.com that new mutations to the ‘spike proteins’ of the coronavirus have made a new variant of the pandemic illness less capable of penetrating and infecting human cells. Above, a 3D model of covid-19 with its infamous spike proteins (red)

Huge asteroid the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza will skim past Earth at 56,000mph today, NASA warns

May 09, 2024 0

A huge asteroid almost the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza will skim past Earth today, NASA has warned.

The 120m (394ft) asteroid, scientifically named 2024 JZ, will pass the planet at a staggering speed of 56,000 mph (90,123) – 65 times faster than a bullet.

But there is no need to head for the doomsday bunker just yet since this asteroid will safely past Earth at a distance of 2.6 million miles (4.2 million km).

While this might sound far away, the asteroid is still classed as a ‘near-Earth object’ (NEO) by NASA.

Dr Edward Bloomer, senior astronomer at Royal Greenwich Observatory, told MailOnline: ‘Today’s passing is not a concern at all, this is not the kind of thing we should be worrying about.’

Ford confirms it will cull another of its best-selling petrol cars next year

May 09, 2024 0

Ford will go ahead with plans to kill off another of its hugely popular petrol models after 2025 to accelerate its switch to electric vehicles, despite a monumental drop in demand for EVs in recent months.

Plummeting appetite for battery-powered cars has triggered some of Ford’s rivals to announce the extended life cycle of some of its popular combustion engine motors in recent weeks.

However, Ford Europe’s boss has said there will be no stay of execution for the Focus hatchback – a mainstay on Britain’s roads since 1998 – which is due to be culled next year.

It comes after the US auto giant ended production of Fiesta in July, which is the most popular passenger car on Britain’s roads today.
