Tornado Warnings issued for Stanton County; Tornado Watch in effect for most of Siouxland

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — UPDATE (1:45 PM) –A Tornado Warning has been issued for Northwestern Woodbury County in west central Iowa…Southwestern Plymouth County in northwestern Iowa…Northwestern Dakota County in northeastern Nebraska, and Southeastern Union County in southeastern South Dakota.

Tornado Warnings issued for Stanton County; Tornado Watch in effect for most of Siouxland

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Jackson In Dakota County, or 8 miles west of Sioux City, moving north at 25 mph.

This dangerous storm will be near…Sioux City, North Sioux City, and Jefferson around 140 PM CDT.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Previous (1:20 p.m.) – A second Tornado Warning has been issued for Stanton County.

According to the National Weather Service, a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected above Clarkson at around 1:20 p.m. This Warning is in effect until 2 p.m.

PREVIOUS (1:07 p.m.)A Tornado Warning has been issued for parts of Stanton and Colfax counties.

According to the National Weather Service, a Tornado Warning has been issued as they have detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado southeast of Leigh.

The Tornado Warning was issued for Northwestern Colfax County and Southeastern Stanton County at 1:07 p.m. and will remain in effect until 1:45 p.m.

PREVIOUS (12:29 p.m) — A Tornado Watch has been issued for most of Siouxland until 7 p.m. this evening for all the counties highlighted in yellow.

(12:20 p.m.) — The Tornado Warning in northeast Nebraska has been canceled.

(12:02 p.m.): The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for southeastern Madison County and north central Platte County until 12:30 p.m.

Weather spotters reported funnel cloud, NWS said.

The NWS said that at 11:58 a.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located 3 miles south of Humphrey, or 16 miles northwest of Columbus, moving north at 15 mph.

Residents in the area are asked to take cover by moving to a basement or an interior room of the lowers floor.


(11:55 a.m.) — More Flood Alerts have issued across parts of Siouxland. Another Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of Wayne, Madison, and Stanton Counties where 2-3″ of rainfall has already been reported and 1-2″ additional are possible this afternoon. This is in effect until 5pm.

Another Areal Flood Advisory has been issued for eastern Madison, eastern Pierce, western Wayne, and western Stanton Counties in Nebraska through 3:15 p.m., where 2-4″ of rainfall has already fallen and another inch of rainfall is possible in this area.

Previous (10:45 a.m.) — The Flood Advisory for western Stanton and eastern Madison County has been set to expire. However, another Areal Flood Advisory has been issued for eastern parts of Cedar, central Wayne, and eastern Stanton County through 3 p.m. this afternoon.

PREVIOUS (9:00 a.m.) — The Tornado Warning has been canceled by the National Weather Service.

PREVIOUS (8:52 a.m.) – A Tornado Warning has been issued for Northeastern Stanton County.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located three miles south of Stanton at around 8:39 a.m.

This Warning will remain in effect until 9:30 a.m.

PREVIOUS (7:14 a.m.) — Several rounds of showers and storms are expected today as we see another round of severe storms moving into the area this morning.

A slight risk of severe weather is issued for parts of the area today (in yellow), with a marginal risk in green, and an enhanced risk in parts of Calhoun County for the day today.

A Tornado Watch has been issued for parts of the area this morning, mainly impacting our southern areas. This is in effect until 8am this morning where we have a chance of seeing some tornadoes spin up in this part of the region. The main threats will be large hail of up to 2″ in diameter and gusty winds of up to 70 mph.

An Areal Flood Advisory is issued in parts of the area, including the green outlined area for eastern Madison and Stanton Counties until 10:30 AM. There is also a Flash Flood Warning in parts of Wayne, Cuming, and Thurston Counties until 11am this morning. In the Advisory, 1-2″ of rain has fallen and could see an additional inch. In the Warning, 1-2″ of rain has fallen and 1-2″ additional of rain is likely to occur. If you see flooding, turn around and don’t drown.
