Charli xcx Appears in New Version of Ariana Grande's Viral 'Domingo' Sketch on SNL as Julia Fox Cameos

November 17, 2024 0

Charli xcx has proven she has major comedy chops.

The Brat singer, 32, pulled double duty on the Nov. 16 episode of Saturday Night Live as the host and musical guest.

She appeared in a number of sketches over the course of the night, including a hilarious new version of the viral 'Domingo' sketch that Ariana Grande appeared in when she hosted the show on Oct. 12.

In the original "Bridesmaid Speech" skit Grande, 31, played a bridesmaid who couldn't quite hit her notes, alongside Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman. Grande sang off key to the tune of Sabrina Carpenter's song "Espresso," about the group's bachelorette party for the bride, played by Chloe Fineman.

In Charli xcx's version of the skit, which was titled, "Babymoon," Fineman returned, this time as a pregnant bride during her baby shower, where the singer, Gardner, Nwodim and Sherman performed a (slightly off key) song about their "besties babymoon," this time to Chappell Roan’s track “Hot To Go."

The Domingo referenced was the same man who, in Grande's skit, the bridesmaids had sung about the bride-to-be flirting with during their bachelorette party.

For the show's musical numbers, the "Girls, so confusing" singer opted to perform "360," which was introduced by Julia Fox in a cameo appearance. The song's lyrics, "I'm everywhere/I'm so Julia," are a nod to Fox, 34.

Charli xcx also performed another track from Brat, her song "Sympathy is a Knife," which also has a connection to Grande, who appeared on the remix of the track.

Elsewhere, the "Apple" singer played Adele in a sketch titled "Wicked Auditions," which featured "unseen" footage of stars (played by Charli xcx and SNL cast members) auditioning for roles in the new movie, as well as Victoria Beckham in a white skirt suit at a Thanksgiving event, in "It Girl Thanksgiving Special."

The evening marked Charli xcx’s third time as the show’s musical guest. She initially performed in 2014 when British actor Martin Freeman hosted. She performed again in 2022 during Oscar Isaac’s episode.

The “Guess” singer has also previously appeared in several digital shorts, including in “The Christmas Socks” music video with Paul Rudd and in the “Meatballs” digital short with cast member Sarah Sherman.

The singer-songwriter recently concluded her Sweat Tour with Australian singer Troye Sivan and released a remix of her Brat album on Oct. 11. The album features Ariana GrandeBillie EilishLorde and more artists.

You’re claiming our girl,’ South Africans, Nigerians clash over Adetshina’s Miss Universe priz

November 17, 2024 0

Tensions have flared again between South Africans and Nigerians after Chidimma Adetshina clinched the first runner-up spot at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City.

Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, emerged as the winner in a tightly contested finale.

Adetshina’s journey has been marked by controversy. Born to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother, and raised in Soweto, she faced xenophobic backlash during the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant, with critics questioning her eligibility due to her father’s nationality.

The ensuing uproar led to an investigation by South Africa’s Home Affairs, which cast doubts on her citizenship.

Now representing Nigeria, her global success has reignited debates.

While some South Africans claim her as one of their own, many Nigerians reject this, pointing to her treatment in South Africa as evidence of her rejection there.

On social media platform, X, a South African blogger, @missuniverseza tweeted, “Congratulations to our golden girl Chidimma Adetshina for placing 1st runner up 🇿🇦🤍🇳🇬. You stood tall & brought pride to all of Africa.

“South Africa and Nigeria we can all be proud. It’s a rare occasion when a black African reaches these heights.”

Reacting, @steveabbey_ wrote, “Which one be South Africa own for inside this one again? Make una get out.”

@skillzxtimi exclaimed, “They are claiming our gal!”

The serious injuries Stipe Miocic could suffer from Jon Jones' spinning kick

November 17, 2024 0

The Madison Square Garden in New York City experienced an adrenaline-filled night at UFC 309, which culminated in a clash of legends with Jon Jones's resounding technical knockout victory over Stipe Miocic to retain his heavyweight title with a spinning kick with President-elect Donald Trump as an honorary front-row witness.

The spinning kick that Jones (28-1-0) applied to Miocic (20-5-0) in the ribs bent him over and left him unable to defend himself, so that in the third round his victory was decreed by technical knockout, so that the champion was consolidated as the best fighter in the world against a rival who dominated the division and who is the one who has had more consecutive defenses with four, but who did not do well and even ended up with a wound under his right eye.

At 42 years of age, Miocic confessed in the final interview with Joe Rogan what was already feared in case of losing and failing in his attempt to conquer for the third time the title and will say goodbye to the octagon, after not fighting since March 2021, which will continue only as a firefighter in Ohio.

"I am done, I'm going to hang them up. I'm going to retire. Thank God," declared Stipe Miocic after his last battle in UFC.

Stipe Miocic could suffer serious injuries at UFC 309

In addition to the pain of defeat, the powerful spinning kick that Jon Jones delivered to Stipe Miocic could have caused serious injuries, according to a report by Essentially Sports, who quoted sports medicine expert Dr. Brian Sutterer on his YouTube channel, where he analyzed the damage that the Croatian-born American could have suffered

"We can see that the initial impact is going to be absorbed primarily by Miocic's latissimus dorsi, which is his latissimus dorsi muscle. Unfortunately, it doesn't absorb much of the blow and we see this significant amount of deterioration extend to the ribs and upper left thoracic region," Dr Sutterer noted.

The specialist fears that with the force of the impact Miocic could suffer "some injury to the internal organs", but this should be ruled out with a full physical examination, to be sure that his kidney and spleen are not lacerated, although he concluded that an injury will be found: "I would be very surprised if Miocic did not have a fractured rib".
