Colin Jost Roasts Wife Scarlett Johansson During 'SNL's Annual Jokes Swap

May 19, 2024 0

Colin Jost playfully roasted his wife Scarlett Johansson during a hilarious joke swap with Michael Che on Saturday Night Live's May 18 episode.

On the last episode of SNL’s 49th season, Colin Jost and Michael Che did their usual joke swap on the Weekend Update segment in which they write risky jokes for each other to deliver, without showing them beforehand.

This year, Michael Che tricked Colin Jost into making a joke about his own wife, Scarlett Johansson.

Colin nervously joked, "ChatGPT has released a new voice assistant feature inspired by Scarlett Johansson's AI character in Her, Which I've never bothered to watch, because without that body what's the point of listening?"

During the joke Colin looked really uncomfortable, which made the joke even funnier.

Later, Colin Jost got his revenge by writing a joke for Michael Che that put him in the middle of a famous rap feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

Micheal started reading, “Speaking of bitches, I want to call up the biggest bitch of all, Kendrick Lamar. Your war with Drake may be over, but your war with Michael Che is just beginning. So to quote Hamilton, 'Shoot your shot, player”

After the joke Micheal couldn't resist praising Colin, noting, "That was pretty well done, man."

For the unversed, Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson got married in October 2020

10 films premiering at Cannes Film Festival 2024 that we cannot wait to watch

May 19, 2024 0

New films from Francis Ford Coppola, Yorgos Lanthimos and an Indian feature in Competition after decades-long absence has us excited for this year's edition.

Every year, the Cannes Film Festival sets the ball rolling in picking some of the best films of the year. The 77th edition of one of the most prestigious festival boasts an array of exciting new titles from filmmakers all over the world. We pick a few films- in no particular order- that are on our must-watch radar. (Also read: Emma Stone dances on Cannes red carpet, makes funny faces as her Kinds of Kindness gets a standing ovation)

An Indian feature film in competition after three decades? Count us excited for All We Imagine as Light by director Payal Kapadia the most. This Indo- French production follows Prabha (Kani Kusruti), a nurse, who receives an unexpected gift from her long estranged husband. Her younger friend and roommate, Anu (Divya Prabha) is in search of a quiet spot with her lover. The two women take a road trip to a beach town where they find space for their dreams and desires to flow. This is also Kapadia's first feature debut, with her previous work: the documentary A Night of Knowing Nothing had clinched the Golden Eye award at Cannes a few years ago.

Yorgos Lanthimos seems to have embraced his Dogtooth-era fascination with weirdly funny and non-conformist roots with his latest competition feature. Kinds of Kindness arrives with amusing trivia. It was made during the post-production of Poor Things, and reunites him with stars Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley. At 165 minutes, this is also a triptych of separate stories rolled into one. If the wild early reviews are any indication, this one is definitely a ride.

ASTON MARTIN DANS LE DUR À CAUSE D'ÉVOLUTIONS INSUFFISANTES

May 19, 2024 0

The Strangers: Chapter 1' scene that's 'haunted' Madelaine Petsch after filming horror trilogy

May 19, 2024 0

The 2008 horror movie The Strangers, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, written and directed by Bryan Bertino, has been reimagined in a trilogy of films, starring Riverdale alum Madelaine Petsch. With The Strangers: Chapter 1 now in theatres, directed by Renny Harlin, Petsch admitted it was an intimidating move to lead three films based on a movie she loves.

"I was incredibly intimidated by the IP because I loved it so much and I know it is one of those cult classics, ... everybody who loves that movie loves that movie," Petsch told Yahoo. "I knew that it was really important that we did it justice and at first I was like, 'I can't do it. I can't touch this. It's too perfect to me.' Then I was like, look if anybody should do it, it should be somebody who cares about it."

"I was really lucky to work with somebody like Renny Harlin and [producer] Courtney Solomon, who made this film, and Lionsgate, who were so open to collaboration and let me kind of come in and rewrite these movies with them, and become a producer really quickly. I think they could just tell how much I cared about the original. I've watched a lot of horror films in my day, but it was kind of the only and first one that stuck with me to such an extreme degree, because it feels so real. And it was really important to me that we didn't flub that."

Maya (Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez) have been dating for five years and are driving to Portland, Oregon where Maya is set to interview for a job at an architecture firm. They stop at a small town of 468 people, Venus, Oregon, to eat at a diner, but when they get back to their car it won't start up again.

That leaves Maya and Ryan stuck in this small town overnight, in a cabin a local has setup as an AirBnb, while they wait for their car to be fixed.

Things quickly take a turn when three masked strangers appear at the remote home.

While this is a trilogy being released one at a time, they weren't shot in order, meaning the actors were jumping around in their work. Additionally, there was the added challenge of there being a bit of a time crunch to get these movies made with Petsch's schedule.

"The first scene I shot of the movies was the first scene in movie two," Petsch shared. "So I was like, f**k let's go, I've got to strap in."

"How I looked at it then was this is one big movie that we've broken up into three chapters. ... Also, I had a lot of notes and I spent a lot of time with the filmmakers, making sure that we knew exactly what was happening in those moments. Because we also didn't have a ton of time to do a million takes for each scene. I had to be back on a show I was on so I couldn't just keep going if we ran over. I had to be out and back in Vancouver in 52 days."

But for Harlin, his goal is to eventually allow the audience to watch the three films back-to-back, one long movie.

"I'm almost guaranteeing it that Lionsgate will let me do it, once all the three movies have come out," he said. "Then we can call it the director's cut, or we can call it whatever, but we can quite easily cut the three movies together so that it becomes one movie."

"That would be the true test of the horror aficionado, who can go there and sit through four and a half hours of constant terror."

While the instinct for many is to put a horror movie on a scale of terror based on shocks and jump scares, Harlin took a different approach for The Strangers: Chapter 1.

"My number one goal was that the movie should have a constant feeling of dread, that it just feels stressful and tense, and it's not about the jump scares," Harlin said. "Of course there are those too, ... but we really tried to avoid those as much as possible so that the movie is not exactly what you expect."

"We lead you a certain way and then we might go back in another way and not give you the payoff that you might traditionally expect. I'd much rather make things just feel extremely creepy and distressing, instead of just having jumpy things come out of every closet."

At the core for Harlin was trying to ground all these films in reality.

"We wanted to always avoid making it seem cheap, or unrealistic, or cheesy," Harlin said. "Anybody can just go 'boo' to the camera all the time, you tend to react to that, but that is kind of cheap scares and we wanted to try to stay away from those."

That also came down to the sound design, with the director having very specific ideas about what this world should sound like.

"I really put the sound designers through the wringer because I said, the house, it's not a haunted house by any means, it's a completely realistic house, but every house has its spirit," Harlin explained. "We worked days and days and days and days, just creating basically the spirit of the house. And it's subliminal, I don't want anybody to go like, 'Oh yeah I remember when that floorboard creaked.'"

"We were pretty sparse in many places with music, just playing the sounds of the place. And the forest, it was full of birds and it just sounded like any forest. And I said, kill the birds. The only bird that you might hear is in the distance. ... There was a little bit of wind, but I said, 'Where's the sound of the tree trunks?' When you have this kind of a forest with these kinds of narrow, skinny, barren trees, ... they are so close to each other that sometimes their trunks touch each other, and there's this weird, almost kind of a reverb thing."

But in terms of the real threats of the story, the masked Strangers, Petsch was even terrified of them on set.

"Walking into this I had no idea what I was getting myself into when it came to the three people who played Strangers, and I cannot tell you enough how lucky we were with these people," Petsch said. "They've all got such unique personalities that come through so clearly with masks on, which is such a crazy thing to be able to do as an actor."

"They also were very respectful and understanding of the people who weren't meant to be a part of their group. They didn't fraternize with them. They were like, we're going to do our own thing so that when you see us, it's time to go. So I was genuinely scared of them. It was a good dynamic for this kind of a film. The shower scene, in particular, has haunted me in my personal hygiene life, for sure."

Prince William is set to be an usher at the Duke of Westminster’s ‘society wedding of the year

May 19, 2024 0

Prince William is set to be an usher at his friend the Duke of Westminster’s wedding but King Charles won’t attend amid rumours of tension over a past Queen Camilla ‘snub’.

Prince Harry is also expected to miss the event over worries his attendance may cause family awkwardness which could overshadow his friend Hugh Grosvenor, and his bride-to-be, Olivia Henson’s big day on June 7.

The King and Queen will miss the ‘society wedding of the year’, over claims they have not forgotten about what happened at the 2004 wedding of Hugh’s sister.

They turned down their invitations at the time to Lady Tamara Grosvenor and Edward van Cutsem’s wedding, which was held at the same venue as the duke’s upcoming wedding: Chester Cathedral.

Camilla Parker Bowles, as she was then, had been told that she would not be allowed to sit with Prince Charles and would instead be seated several rows back and be made to arrive separately.

This was because of royal protocol since Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the ceremony, along with Princes William and Harry.

Tensions were heightened by reports that Emilie van Cutsem, the groom’s mother, and Camilla had fallen out after each is alleged to have criticised the behaviour of the other’s children.

Charles ultimately excused himself from the event with just days to go, saying he had to visit Warminster barracks to meet the families of soldiers serving in Iraq. Camilla was described as ‘otherwise engaged’.

According to royal author Sarah Bradford, Camilla was so infuriated that she told Charles the status quo was no longer acceptable. Their own engagement was announced three months later.

The King, who is Grosvenor’s godfather, is still undergoing cancer treatment and will be travelling to France the day before the ceremony next month with the Queen and Prince William to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

Another aspect of the upcoming wedding that has been the talk of the town for months is why Prince Harry may have turned down an invitation from his old friend.

Now friends of the Royal Family think they have solved the mystery, claiming that Prince Harry refused to attend when he discovered his brother William had been given a prominent role.

Tonight the Sunday Times reported that the Prince of Wales will be an usher at the duke’s wedding to Olivia Henson.

The Mail on Sunday understands that his son Prince George is set have a prominent role too, as he is the duke’s godson. The attendance of King Charles, who is the duke’s godfather, is yet to be officially confirmed or denied.

Known as ‘Huey’ to friends, the 33-year-old duke is one of very few to remain close friends with both William and Harry.

Friends have suggested the Prince of Wales was first asked in December to be an usher at the wedding at Chester Cathedral next month. At one stage, he was even said to have been earmarked as a best man.

Harry was said to have been ‘put out’ by the news because he had always regarded himself as being closer to the duke – who is also godfather to the Sussexes’ first-born, Prince Archie.

Last night, a well-informed source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘William was asked to have a prominent role in the wedding and that’s what triggered Harry to decline an invitation. Apparently he [Harry] was put out by the request when he thought it should have been him.’

Referencing the lack of public details about the occasion, the source added: ‘Both the Palace and Hugh’s people decided to hold dear the operational part of the wedding once the leak about Harry not attending made the papers.’

Last year, it was claimed that Prince Harry had been ‘snubbed’ from the wedding, but a source close to the Sussexes was at pains to explain to US publication Page Six that both Meghan and Harry had in fact received invitations, but had jointly decided to decline.

Neither Harry nor his wife Meghan Markle will attend the wedding, which is expected to have 400 guests, despite Grosvenor being so close to Harry that he is a godfather to the couple’s five-year-old son Prince Archie

Prince William will be among the groom’s party, but the Princess of Wales, who is receiving cancer treatment, is not expected to attend.

Grosvenor, known as ‘Hughie’ to his friends, and Henson, were introduced by mutual friends in 2021.

The couple have insisted on a ‘strictly no-gifts policy’ for their guests, according to The Sunday Times.

The Duke inherited his £9.3billion fortune when his father Gerald Grosvenor suffered a sudden heart attack while out on a country walk and died aged 64 in 2016.

He inherited 300 acres across the affluent London areas of Mayfair and Belgravia, as well as estates in Oxford, Scotland and properties around the globe. This includes his current residence at Eaton Hall, the 10,872-acre family estate.

After the wedding service at Chester Cathedral, guests will then enjoy a grand reception at nearby Eaton Hall.

The following day they will host a second, smaller reception at Eaton Hall for close family and friends, but further details of both receptions are being kept secret.

Sustainability will be a key feature of the wedding, with all food, flowers and products used for the wedding locally sourced where possible.

The following day they will host a second, smaller reception at Eaton Hall for close family and friends, but further details of both receptions are being kept secret.

The city of Chester is also bracing itself for the celebrations, with thousands of people expected to line the streets.

Some shops, restaurants and cafés near the cathedral will be closed on the day for access and security.

A spokesman for Kensington Palace said the Prince of Wales is attending the wedding in a private capacity, and said it does not comment on events during his private time.

A representative for Prince Harry was also contacted for comment.

Earlier this month, the engaged couple visited several local charities in Chester helped by the Westminster Foundation – showcasing their charisma and drawing comparisons from the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Grosvenor, who is known to be publicity-shy and has always maintained a low profile despite his extreme wealth, is known to be ‘incredibly excited’ but ‘nervous’ about the wedding.

Olivia and Hugh announced their engagement on April 23, 2023, after two years of dating.

Raised at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, Hugh Grosvenor was privately educated at Ellesmere College before obtaining a BSc in Countryside Management from Newcastle University.

After his graduation, Grosvenor worked in estate management at the food and agriculture company Wheatsheaf Group, an investment business based in the Eaton estate and owned by the Grosvenor Group.

Afterwards, he held an account manager position at sustainability company bio-bean, which turns coffee-related waste into bioproducts such as biofuels and logs.

The future Duchess of Westminster also comes from a wealthy background. Olivia descends from the Hoare banking family as well as the Marquesses of Bristol and the Dukes of Rutland, according to the Telegraph.

The outlet also says her uncle is the Grand Master of Scottish freemasons and her father is stockbroker Rupert Henson.

Olivia reportedly also has a 29-year-old brother who works in asset management and a 26-year-old sister who’s in a brand relationships role.

She is also said to speak Spanish and Italian after completing a Hispanic Studies and Italian degree at Trinity College in Dublin.

Much like the Princess of Wales, Olivia is understood to have attended the elite Marlborough College, and before that was at the equally revered Dragon School in Oxford along with fellow alum Emma Watson.

She worked at Daily Dose LDN and No1 Rosemary Water before landing a role at Belazu – a B Corp ingredients brand – where she is currently a Key Account Manager, in 2019.

Close friends with the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke is the youngest of Prince George’s godparents.

He has previously represented the country at Olympic Skeet Shooting competitions both internationally and in the UK.

Hugh previously dated property and recruitment consultant Harriet Tomlinson, but the couple, who met at £6,000-a-term day school Ellesmere College in Shropshire, split in 2020.

The Duke also supports the rehabilitation of wounded or injured members of the Armed Forces and donated £2.5million to the Health Service when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, but said he was so ‘humbled’ by the work of doctors and nurses he wanted to give another £10million.
