Tens of thousands of X users reported outages throughout Monday. An official cause has not yet been publicly confirmed.
Why it matters: The app formerly known as Twitter has experienced several widespread outages since Elon Musk took over as owner in 2022. Other competitors have founded apps as the social media landscape has become more partisan and polarized.
- X did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment.
Driving the news: Outage reports started at about 6am ET and spiked around 10am with 41,000 reports, per Downdetector, which tracks website and app outages.
- On Downdetector, 57% reported problems with the app, while 32% reported issues with the website.
- The outages were reported across the U.S.

President Trump voluntarily dismissed his legal battle with X regarding the social media platform's permanent suspension of the president's account following the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.
Why it matters: X, which Elon Musk primarily owns but was then the publicly-traded Twitter, banned Trump for what it described at the time as a "risk of further incitement of violence."
