Microsoft Resolves Major Outlook and Teams Outage After Day-Long Disruption

Microsoft (MSFTFinancial) said on Monday that it had regained control over Outlook and Teams services, which had stopped working globally. The problems started in the morning and concerned crucial business applications, and after they occurred, many office employees could not communicate. Before it stabilized, Downdetector captured over 5,000 reports of outages at the peak time.

Microsoft released a fix and claimed by the evening that most people were able to regain entry, with some Outlook web users still locked. Complete restoration should be possible by Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the company attributed slower speed to its recovery process but said it was working around the clock to address other problems.

This outage comes after a year of massive global tech disruptions. However, unlike previous events like the CrowdStrike IT failure this year, it did not have the same effect, paralyzing industries and causing billions of dollars in damages.

Such incidents have highlighted the dependence on cloud services as major business solutions. Organizations remain pressured to increase efforts to ensure their infrastructure can withstand some impacts during an outage.

To businesses and users, Microsoft's updates best illustrate the need to check service health portals for real-time recovery information continually. The tech giant also reiterated its intention to implement faster outage solutions to retain user trust in its Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
