iOS 18 makes iPhone more personal, capable, and intelligent than ever

June 11, 2024 0

Apple announced new features coming to iPhones via iOS 18 and the company's AI-powered intelligence system called "Apple Intelligence" at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday, including scheduled iMessages, interface customizability and one-of-a-kind emojis.

With iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence coming later this year, according to Apple executive Craig Federighi, iPhone users will have access to a smarter, more customizable and more powerful mobile operating system.

"We are just getting started, I hope you are as excited as I am about the road ahead," Federighi said during Apple's keynote at WWDC.

Here are some of the new features coming via iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence.

Enhanced home screen, control center customizability

When iPhone users unlock their devices, they are typically met by a wallpaper and a ton of apps. With iOS 18, users will be able to further customize their home screen in various ways, including by:

  • Putting app icons and widgets anywhere on the home screen grid.
  • Turning the iPhone on dark mode, which now changes app icons.
  • Changing the tint color of the home screen.
The control center is also more customizable as iPhone users will be able to group their favorite controls, including ones created by third-party apps. The flashlight and camera shortcuts on the lock screen will also be changeable.

Scheduled messages and more "tapback" reactions coming with iOS 18

The Messages app will have a lot of new features coming thanks to iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence, Apple leaders announced Monday.

Incredible footage shows Florida sniper shoot hostage-holding bank robber

June 10, 2024 0

Absolutely stunning footage has been released of a SWAT sniper smoking a bad guy in Florida.

Sterling Alavache was killed by a SWAT sniper after taking two people hostage at a Bank of America location in South Fort Myers back in February.

Lee County Sheriff's Office released the footage of the shooting over the weekend, and it's absolutely wild. The sniper leveled off his rifle on a guy's shoulder, and proceeded to send a round through a computer monitor into Alavache's head.

Both hostages were quickly rescued by the main assault force that rushed the bank. You can check out the insane footage below, but be warned some might consider it graphic.

SWAT sniper kills bad guy in insane video.

This is one of the wildest police shooting videos that we've seen in a long time. Alavache was attempting to use two people as human shields from the SWAT team.

The window for opportunity was incredibly narrow. The situation could have ended tragically if the sniper was off by an inch or two in either direction.

Fortunately, his aim was true and he sent that round flying down range through a computer right into the bad guy's head. It's the kind of stuff you see in the movies, but very rarely in real life.

This is Tier One level shooting.

Props to the SWAT team for getting the job done and keeping the two hostages safe. This is the kind of stuff we simply love to see. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Apple could announce brand new device for the UK this week

June 10, 2024 0

Apple is geared up to announce many new changes to the software of its popular products including the iPhone at its annual Worldwide Developer Conference in California this week. Rumour has it there are big changes coming to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac with AI the name of the game - Apple is playing catchup with its rivals Samsung and Google. But the American tech titan might also finally let its loyal British customers know when they’ll be able to buy one of its latest products, the Apple Vision Pro.

Vision Pro is Apple’s virtual reality headset, even though the firm refuses to call it that. It prefers the term ‘spatial computing’ to describe the headset which can display VR experiences such as fullscreen movies and video, but also augmented reality (AR) scenarios such as floating computer windows while you can also see the world around you. It’s all very Minority Report, and all very expensive - the device costs $3,499 in the US, currently the only country it’s on sale.

But there are whispers this could change as soon as this week. WWDC kicks off on Monday 10 June and goes until Friday 14 June. It’s a conference where developers of apps and services gather to learn about how Apple is changing iOS for the iPhone as well as iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS for all its other products. Though Apple is expected to concentrate on iOS 18 updates, the company could be set to announce the UK release date and price for the Vision Pro.

Macrumors reported that Tim Cook recently confirmed during a trip to China that the Vision Pro will go on sale there at some point in 2024. That’s a big deal, as Apple will have had to optimise visionOS to run in Chinese compared to the US English version on sale. We imagine it’d be less work to get a UK English version out, so the UK could see Apple’s latest gadget hit store shelves in time for Christmas.

Nvidia Owns These 4 Stocks. Here’s How They’re Doing.

June 10, 2024 0

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is a “generational opportunity” that could grow to become 10-15% of the S&P 500 index, Evercore ISI analysts said in a Sunday note.

According to the investment banking firm, Nvidia is not just a semiconductor company but an “ecosystem play” set to lead the age of parallel processing. “driven by an every 15-20 year Tectonic Shift in Computing."

Analysts posit that Nvidia's current breakout above $1,000 per share has "unlocked the door" for the stock to hit as high as $1,500, a projection supported by the strong performance of the Semiconductor Index, which has risen by 87% since October 2023, though still short of the historic tech bubble surge.

Evercore's analysis indicates that Nvidia's growth is far from reaching its peak, with the firm outlining a base case for Nvidia's earnings per share (EPS) power in 2030 at $69, and a bull case reaching $82.

This projection “could be conservative if 2030 prospective “start date” for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) materializes,” the note states.

It also highlights that while high-profile stock splits often fuel short-term volatility, they also “reset the generational buying opportunity, time after time.” Nvidia's upcoming 10:1 stock split is expected to be a catalyst for a temporary surge followed by a strategic buying opportunity for patient investors.

While Evercore views NVDA as a standout opportunity, it remains bullish on other “AI revolutionaries.” As the firm explains it, these are the companies “enabling the AI Revolution and those who have adopted AI quickly in order to deepen their competitive moats

These names are long-term buy and hold stocks, cornerstone of an AI exposed portfolio,” Evercore added.

Some of the stocks on its AI revolutionaries list are Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META), Salesforce (NYSE:CRM), Pinterest (NYSE:PINS), Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO), and Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER), among others.

National Best Friends Day 2024: Significance And Wishes

June 08, 2024 0

Best friends, whether near or far away, help us to navigate life's ups and downs. They share our joys, help us cope with our tragedies, and, most importantly, they are present in both the good and bad periods of our lives.

It is important that you recognise and appreciate the positive relationships in your life. While friendship celebrations occur throughout the year, June 8 is celebrated as Best Friends Day, mostly in the United States and Canada. Celebrating Best Friends Day is one of the ways we can say how much we love our chosen family. Whether it's about sharing secrets, going on a holiday or chatting late into the night, we can't think of a day without friends.

Significance

The day is marked to honour the friendships that bind us to our friends. National Best Friends Day celebrates the bonds that bind a person to their closest buddy or group of friends. Your parents, grandparents, siblings, spouse, coworkers, students, and even pets may all be considered your best friends. The day is all about cherishing every minute spent, making new memories, and being thankful for the relationship you have.

There are no specific customs associated with commemorating this unique day. You are free to observe the special occasion in your own manner. Eating a meal at your favourite restaurant, sharing heartfelt posts on social media, going out for a drink with your friends, exchanging thoughtful messages, and engaging in bonding activities like painting, dancing, and rock climbing are a few ways to celebrate National Best Friends Day. You can even plan that long-pending trip with your best friend/s to your favourite destination.

Additionally, you can send gifts like scrapbooks and personalised jewellery or clothes with "best friend" written over it. Gifts typically have a higher sentimental and considerate value than monetary purchases.

Wishes And Messages

  • No matter where we go, or how old we grow, our bond will be unbreakable for life. Happy friendship day to my best friend.
  • Happy National Friends Day! may our beautiful friendship always stay the same.
  • You are the kindest, funniest and most helpful person I've ever met. Happy National Friends Day!'
  • Thank you for being my bestie! Happy Best Friends Day!
  • We are across the miles, but our friendship knows no distance. I wish you a happy friendship day.
  • You have lightened up my world with your contagious laugh, and I feel the happiness around you. You give me hope in the bad times and tell me to move on in life to grow as every bad day comes to an end.
  • Happy National Friends Day to all the amazing people who touched our lives during difficult times.
  • I count myself lucky to have you as my best friend! Happy Best Friends Day buddy!

Why the Fever can cover

Clark leads the way with an average of 15.6 points and 6.4 assists per game, but the Fever have other threats as well. Forward Aliyah Boston is a two-way force in the frontcourt for the Fever. Boston can score in the low post and owns a nice mid-range jumper. The South Carolina product logs 10.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. In the May 30 loss to the Seattle Storm, Boston dropped 11 points, 12 boards and five assists.

Forward NaLyssa Smith brings another dynamic player to the floor. Smith excels in the pick-and-roll with a knack for snagging rebounds. The 23-year-old averages 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. She's totaled 17-plus points in three straight games. In Sunday's loss to the Liberty, Smith had 17 points and eight rebounds. See which side to back at SportsLine.

Why the Mystics can cover

Guard Ariel Atkins is a high-energy playmaker in the backcourt. She gets out in transition, knocks down perimeter shots and plays solid defense. The 27-year-old averages 13.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. On May 29 against the Atlanta Dream, Atkins racked up 21 points, eight rebounds, three dimes and two steals.

Guard Julie Vanloo provides Washington with a veteran playmaker in the backcourt. Vanloo has good court vision and is able to hit shots on the outside. The 31-year-old puts up 8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. She's scored in double figures in four games this season. In a May 25 contest against the Seattle Storm, Vanloo finished with 12 points and three assists. See which side to back at SportsLine.

How to make WNBA picks for Fever vs. Mystics

Wetzel is leaning Under on the point total and he has locked in two Mystics vs. Fever picks -- one on a side and a must-see Caitlin Clark prop. Go to SportsLine to see what they are.

Hallie Biden admits to disposing of Hunter Biden's gun in testimony

June 07, 2024 0

Hallie Biden, who is also the widow of the defendant's late brother Beau, said that she had discovered the revolver amid piles of clothes and litter in the glove compartment of Hunter Biden's truck.

The Delaware court will begin hearing from two more witnesses on Friday as prosecutors present their remaining evidence to jurors.

It is unclear if Mr Biden himself will testify in what is the first trial for the son of a sitting US president.

The 54-year-old is accused of lying on a form about his drug use when he purchased the gun and ammunition on 12 October 2018 in Wilmington, Delaware. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Mr Biden has pleaded not guilty to three charges related to his possession of a firearm while allegedly using narcotics.

His defence team says he was in recovery at the time, so was truthful when he indicated on the paperwork that he was not a drug user.

On Thursday, the court heard from Hallie Biden, a central figure in the case who became romantically involved with the defendant shortly after the 2015 death of his brother and her husband.

Ms Biden, 50, told the court she was "embarrassed and ashamed" to have started smoking crack cocaine herself after Mr Biden introduced her to the drug.

In often emotional, detailed testimony, she spoke of the pair's "volatile" and "off-on" relationship, as well as their struggles with drug use and agonising battles to recover.

Ms Biden testified that she had stopped using the drug in August 2018, but that Hunter Biden had continued to use it.

Concerned after seeing Mr Biden looking "exhausted" and fearing he could have relapsed into crack use, Ms Biden told jurors she had searched his truck early on the morning of 23 October 2018 - something she had frequently done.

There, among piles of clothes and garbage, she had found "remnants" of crack cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia.

“Oh, and the gun, obviously," she added.

Almost instantly, she recalled, panic set in.

"I didn't want him to hurt himself, and I didn't want my kids to find it and hurt themselves," the mother-of-two said.

"I was afraid to kind of touch it. I didn't know it was loaded," Ms Biden added.

Fearful, she wrapped the .38 calibre Colt Cobra revolver into a leather pouch, stuffed it into a purple "little gift shopping bag" and drove to a nearby grocery store, where she threw it in a rubbish bin.

"I realise it was a stupid idea now," she said. "But I was panicking."

Initially, she did not plan to tell Mr Biden about what she had done. But when he woke up that morning, he realised it was missing.

"Did you take that from me Hallie," read one angry text shown to jurors. "You really need to help me think right now, Hallie. This is very serious."

At his urging, she returned to the store to find the gun but was unable to. She then filed a police report.

"I'll take the blame," she texted him from the scene. "I don't want to live like this."

It has previously emerged that the weapon was discovered by a man who often rummaged through the grocery store’s refuse to gather recyclable items.

Ms Biden also told the court that she had not see Mr Biden use crack cocaine in the days leading up to him buying the gun and her disposing of it.

As she testified, Hunter Biden appeared to look intently in her direction.

He also looked back at his wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, who has attended each day of the trial so far.

Hallie Biden also told the court that it was only after their relationship began that she had learned of Mr Biden's drug use.

She found crack cocaine at her house - where he would frequently stay - and later repeatedly saw him use the drug.

Crack, she said, left him "agitated or high-strung, but at other times, functioning as well".

The prosecutor asked on Thursday about a text message Hunter Biden had sent to Ms Biden the day after he bought the gun, saying he was waiting for a dealer named Mookie.

She told the court that had meant "he was buying crack cocaine".

Two days after the gun purchase, he texted Ms Biden that he was "sleeping on a car smoking crack".

The series of texts also included several emotional messages from Ms Biden in which she pleaded with him to get sober.

"I'm afraid you're going to die," one message read.

The defendant's lawyers explained the texts by suggesting their client had been lying about drug use to avoid seeing Hallie Biden - noting that she had had no way of knowing what he was actually doing at the time.

During cross-examination, Ms Biden confirmed she had not seen him using drugs around this time.

Abbe Lowell, Mr Biden's attorney, asked her whether the request to "help me get sober" could have also referred to alcohol - to which she agreed.

The prosecution's case, however, rests on convincing jurors that he was an addict.

Ms Biden's testimony was followed by Millard Greer, a former Delaware State Police lieutenant who recovered the weapon, as well as Edward Banner, an 80-year-old pensioner who found the weapon while looking for recyclables in the grocery store's bins.

As his son appears in court, President Joe Biden has continued his public duties. On Thursday, he delivered a speech in France to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

In an interview with ABC News on the same day, Mr Biden said he would accept the outcome of his son's trial and would not pardon him if convicted.

Hunter Biden also faces a trial in California in September on charges of failing to pay $1.4m (£1.1m) in taxes.
