November 25, 2024 0

Bishop T.D. Jakes, 67, had what his church described as a "slight health incident" during a sermon Sunday.

The megachurch celebrity pastor was seen to pause his sermon and shake as people approached him on stage in footage posted to social media.

The Potter's House Church, the nondenominational Christian church in Dallas, Texas led by Jakes where he was preaching Sunday, released a statement on Jakes' official X account saying that he received "immediate medical attention" after the sermon.

"Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals," the statement said.

Jakes appeared in an Instagram post promoting the service before it began at 9 a.m. CT.

Mick Fleetwood plays to the future in Maui

November 24, 2024 0

The island of Maui is a mere dot in the enormity of the vast Pacific Ocean, but it's not hard to see why millions visit every year, and why there are some who never want to leave. Fleetwood Mac founder Mick Fleetwood fell in love with Maui decades ago, and put down deep roots. "Long story, a long love affair," he said.

"But it really is your heart and your home?" I asked.

"Uh-huh. People often think, 'Oh yeah, how often are you on Maui?'" Fleetwood said. "This is my home. No other place."

As a young man he'd dreamed of a place, a club, where he could get his friends together, and 12 years ago he made it happen in the west Maui city of Lahaina:  Fleetwood's on Front Street. The menu was eclectic – they served everything from Biddie's Chicken (just like Fleetwood's mom, Biddie, made it) to cookie dough desserts dreamed up by his children. It was also a place where Mick and friends could play. "We created, I created, a band of people under a roof," he said. "Instead of a traveling circus, it was a resident circus at Fleetwood's on Front Street."

It was also a place where Mick and friends could play. "We created, I created, a band of people under a roof," he said. "Instead of a traveling circus, it was a resident circus at Fleetwood's on Front Street."

A wind-driven fire tore through western Maui, killing more than a hundred people, and consuming more than 2,000 buildings. Fleetwood was in Los Angeles when the fire started, and he hurried back to a scene of utter devastation.

And his beloved restaurant? A charred sign was about all that was left.

I said, "I understand your not wanting to be, 'Me, me, me,' especially in light of the lives that were lost, the homes that were lost; you don't want to make too big of a deal out of a restaurant."

"No."

"But at the same time, this was your family. This was your home. That must've been a huge loss."

"It was a huge loss," Fleetwood said. "And in the reminding of it, that wave comes back. Today knowing we're doing this, I go, like, Okay, this is gonna be … a day."

We took a walk with Fleetwood down the street where his place once stood: the last time he was here, the place was still smoldering. "Literally, parts of it were still hot," he said.

More than a year later, the Lahaina waterfront is still very much a disaster zone.

The decision about what to do with the land is still up in the air; the priority is housing for the displaced residents. But Fleetwood says he's determined to rebuild, just maybe not in the same place.

Asked what he pictures in a new place, he said, "For me, it has to encompass being able to handle playing music. There has to be music. We had it every day. That's a selfish request!"

But before anything is rebuilt, there's still a massive cleanup that needs to be completed here.

"We will see," he said. "You have a blank [canvas] to paint on, and there's a lot of painting to do.

"You have to be careful, even in this conversation, of going like, 'How sad that was,' when really it's about, 'Yes, but now we need this.' In the end you go like, it happened. And what's really important is absorbing maybe how all these things happened, and can they be circumnavigated to be more safe in the future, and be more aware? Of course that's part of it. But the real, real essence is the future."

Fleetwood's ukelele is one of the few things that survived the fire, and he's hoping his dream survives as well.

Woolery was the subject of the Game Show Network's first attempt at a reality show, "Chuck Woolery: Naturally Stoned," which premiered in 2003 and lasted six episodes.

Woolery began his TV career on "Wheel of Fortune," which debuted Jan. 6, 1975, on NBC.

"Wheel of Fortune" started life as "Shopper’s Bazaar." After Woolery appeared on "The Merv Griffin Show" singing "Delta Dawn," Griffin asked that he host the new show with Stafford.

NBC initially passed, but they changed it to "Wheel of Fortune" and were approved. After a few years, Woolery demanded a raise to $500,000 a year, or what host Peter Marshall was making on "Hollywood Squares." Griffin rejected the request and replaced Woolery with Pat Sajak, who, along with Vanna White, are most commonly associated with the show.

Following his TV career, Woolery began podcasting. He told The New York Times that he described himself as a gun-rights activist, a conservative-libertarian and constitutionalist, noting that he had not revealed his politics in liberal Hollywood over fear of retribution.

Thanksgiving Weather: NWS Alerts for Bone-Chilling Cold and Five Feet of Heavy Snow Across 11 States!

November 23, 2024 0

Millions of travelers could face disruptions as a powerful winter storm brings heavy snow, frigid temperatures, and high winds to 11 states after Thanksgiving. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous conditions in the Northeast and Great Lakes regions. Will your travel plans be affected?

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings about significant snowfall and hazardous winter weather across large parts of the United States during the post-Thanksgiving travel period. This comes as millions of Americans prepare to hit the roads and skies during one of the busiest travel times of the year.

Heavy Snow Expected in the Northeast and Great Lakes Regions

A winter storm is forecasted to bring heavy snow to 11 states, primarily in the northern and northeastern United States. States such as WisconsinMichiganIndianaOhioWest VirginiaPennsylvania, New YorkMassachusettsVermontNew Hampshire, and Maine are most at risk. The snowfall is expected to start on November 29 and continue through the holiday weekend, with accumulations that could disrupt travel plans.

The NWS Climate Prediction Center predicts a 20 to 40 percent chance of heavy snow in these areas, accompanied by below-average temperatures and high winds. These conditions are likely to result in icy roads, reduced visibility, and potential power outages.

Widespread Advisories Implemented in 15 States

In addition to the heavy snow, winter storm warnings and advisories have been issued for 15 states, including Maryland, Idaho, California, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. The storm system is driven by a broad area of low atmospheric pressure, bringing the coldest air outbreak of the season so far too much of the country.

The northern plains are expected to face particularly harsh conditions, with temperatures dropping below -10 °F (-23.33 °C) in some areas. Dangerous wind chills and a slight risk of hazardous high winds (up to 40 percent probability) are also possible.

Impact on Travel and Safety Precautions

Major highways, such as I-90, I-94, and I-80, could see treacherous conditions, including icy patches and snow drifts. These hazards may cause delays for travelers and create dangerous driving environments. Additionally, regions experiencing freezing rain could face localized power outages.

UFC Macau live blog: Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

November 23, 2024 0

This is the UFC Macau live blog for Petr Yan vs. Deiveson Figueiredo, the bantamweight main event this Saturday in Macau.

A former bantamweight champion who fans once thought might reign for years on end, Yan has fallen on tough times recently. After losing his title via disqualification to Aljamain Sterling in 2021, Yan rebounded with an interim title win over Cory Sandhagen before losing three in a row, including his rematch with Sterling. On the precipice of fading into irrelevancy, Yan finally managed to rebound by beating Song Yadong at UFC 299 back in March and now hopes a win over the surging Figueiredo might get his career back on track.

Like Yan, many thought Figueiredo had the makings of a long-reigning champion back when he took the vacant flyweight title in 2020. But then Brandon Moreno upset those plans and after a four-pack of fights, Figueiredo found himself no longer the flyweight champion. In response, “Daico” decided to move up to 135 pounds in 2023, where’s he been a revelation. Putting together three straight wins over top opponents, Figueiredo is now on the cusp of a title shot if he can get past the former champion on Saturday.

Masked gang broke into home of Conor McGregor accuser, Dublin court was told

November 23, 2024 0

A gang of masked men broke into the home of a woman who took a civil case against mixed martial arts fighter

The incident was referred to at the start of the court case in Dublin but could not be reported until now as it emerged during legal discussion while the jury were not present.

On Friday, a jury in the high court of Ireland found that McGregor had in December 2018 assaulted Nikita Hand, who had accused him of raping her, and awarded damages of nearly €250,000 (£208,000) in her favour.

The court heard that unknown masked men had broken into her home, smashed the windows and stabbed her boyfriend on 14 June.

Hand’s counsel, John Gordon, told Judge Owens that he was not suggesting the fighter was behind the attack but that it went some way to explain her anxiety and why she relocated from her home.

“The plaintiff’s home was invaded by a group of men wearing balaclavas,” he said.

“The broke into the plaintiff’s bedroom, and were driven out by the plaintiff’s partner, who suffered a stab wound in the process. Her daughter was in the next room, sleeping.”

Gordon also told the court that the men broke windows in the front room before leaving.

“We are not laying that at the feet of the defendants or saying they have anything to do with that,” he added.

“We do make the claim that it was not an untargeted attack, [it] rose from supporters of the first named defendant [McGregor].

“It is related to the claim that she had to move out of the Drimnagh area.”

The judge asked whether the claim was being made that McGregor had anything to do with it, to which Gordon replied: “No, judge, it is an item of special damage.

“It related to her state of anxiety and her claim that she had to move from the Drimnagh area, as she has now done.”

McGregor’s barrister, Remy Farrell, said it seemed Hand was introducing a claim “which is nothing to do with us”, and complained it would be “an invitation to the jury to speculate”.

The judge ruled that he considered it to be “completely irrelevant and shouldn’t be referred to”.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed it had received report of an incident of aggravated burglary and that investigations were ongoing. They added that a man had received hospital treatment for “non life-threatening injuries”.

On Friday, McGregor, who denied Hand’s claims as lies and fabrication designed to cover up cheating on her boyfriend, said he was appealing against the high court decision, noting that the damages award was “modest”.

He said: “The judge’s instruction and the modest award given was for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages. I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP [Ireland’s director of public prosecutions] reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide,” he said on X.

The DPP had decided not to pursue the case in 2020 on the grounds there was not a reasonable prospect of a conviction.

McGregor had faced an accusation that he “brutally raped and battered” Hand at a hotel in south Dublin in December 2018.

The Irish sports star previously told the court he had consensual sex with Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon hotel.

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre said the case was an important moment in establishing what “consent” meant after the judge made it clear in his closing comments to the jury that “submission” was not consent, nor was risky behaviour. Drinking or taking drugs “does not mean they are up for sex”, Owens said.
